Blast from the past. Optiarc is back, and Vinpower Digital has revised the Optiarc product line with the introduction of the Optiarc 5290S-PLUS optical disc burner, which offer the DVD+R DL Overburn feature toexpand the writing capacity from 8.5GB up to 8.7GB.

かつて光学ドライブを製造していたソニーオプティアークを覚えていらっしゃるだろうか。もともとは2006年にNECと合弁で設立された会社で、ソニーNECオプティアークとして知られていたが、2008年にソニーがNECの保有株をすべて取得して、ソニーの完全子会社として、ソニーオプティアークに改名した。しかし2012年に、ソニーがPC用光学ドライブ事業から撤退し、2013年3月で同社は完全に解散した。

そのソニーオプティアークが今回、「Optiarc(オプティアーク)」ブランドで完全復活することが、COMPUTEXで明らかになった。製造や開発を担当するのは、業務用の光学ドライブデュプリケータなどを製造するVinpower Digitalだ。ちなみに、同社はPlextorブランドの光学ドライブも一部販売を担当している。

Bekende merken zijn verdwenen, zoals bijvoorbeeld Optiarc. Dat was een samenwerking tussen Sony en NEC. Op de Computex waren we verbaasd, ze weer tegen te komen. Inmiddels is het een merk van Vinpower Digital geworden en dat heeft zich ook bekommerd over het merk Plextor. Die laatste is nog een naam van Lite-On die dat onder andere gebruikt voor haar SSD’s. De focus bij dat bedrijf is verlegd naar dat opslagmiddel en dat gaf Vinpower de mogelijkheid om het merk te gebruiken voor optische producten.
